There are specific forums for trading on GW.

Perennials, Trees, Shrubs, Soil and Name That Plant forums are all alive and well. Vines being more restrictive, not so much.

i don't get it, vines are awesome. MG's are vines for petes sake!

Personally, I think there are too many forums here on GW and some just don't get much traffic. All vines are also annuals or perennials, fruit bearing, woody or herbaceous so they fit in a lot of categories, not just vines. Also the name is Americo-centric since 'Vines' in other English speaking areas are specifically grape vines. The term here in the UK, for example, would be 'Climbers' and unless one was familiar with the US meaning it would be assumed that this forum is for Viticulture. If you want to talk about Morning Glories you could post here and see what happens, or you could try the annuals or perennials forums, depending on your climate.

We get a lot of MG discusion here, it's just been sparse for the past few years. ;)

When houzz took over gardenweb it changed a lot. I stopped coming to the site for a long time. I've just recently checked in again. it seems much quieter than it use to.

Much like roses, morning glories tend to have a dedicated, if restricted, following :-) Personally, I don't care for them at all nor do any other than the weedy forms do well in my climate but there are many other vines I do admire and encourage. And will comment on if the question arises.

Many of the forums stay pretty quiet until the growing season is fully upon us.

Another participant from there used to complain about terms used not being British. In fact they actually posted that names used by Americans on this site were incorrect. Over and over. Simply because they were words we use here instead of ones that are customary across the pond. Since most of the site is North American oriented it wouldn't make sense to use British or European headings for forums not directed at those areas specifically.

Face-book is thought to have made inroads here awhile back. And for years there has been that other site with its enormous membership and multiple features. By now there are so many platforms for communication on the web I don't begin to know what they all are or what they do.

I was not for one moment suggesting that the term 'Vines' is incorrect, Embo. I was not complaining, merely trying to explain that anyone who speaks or has learned British English rather than American might not visit a forum called Vines because they'd think it was about grape growing. A while back we had someone vainly posting some specific viticulture questions here when they would have got an answer on the Orchard forum. The OP asked why the forum was quiet and the title could contribute to that.

I didn't say you did, I said that's what the other person used to do.

Since most on this part of the site aren't from overseas the use of Vines shouldn't be likely to confuse very many. And if the forum was called Climbers most coming here wouldn't be familiar with that usage.

Ha, ha, climbers might attract mountaineering fans. How about compromising on vines and climbing plants? Just for the sake of argument, the fact that most people on this site aren't from overseas might be evidence for confusion rather than against it. They don't visit because they think it's about grapes.

I miss 'the other person'. Their knowledge was impressive, despite the language spats.

I just like to chat about mgs, and view photos. :)

I had a morning glory question and had a hard time deciding what forum to put it in. I finally put it in Soil, Compost & Mulch since it was soil specific to MGs.

That's odd. It seems you would choose this forum, because MG's are discussed here. :)

Not so odd; not being very familiar with the site, the many choices were confusing. I've never seen another forum with such a specific and overwhelming number of choices.

This forum used to have a photos link, a discussions link, and a seed trade link. Why would they make so many changes, and not good ones? :(

the site is different now. It's mostly advertising on here.

I see it in the forums. it's just people making accounts and advertising their products. Nothing severe but its there lol.

Well, it seemed to me that it was very convenient the other way. It made the sight more special. I guess we all have our preferences. It does seem that with all the changes, the amount of post, trades, and excitement have all lessened. :)
