Calla Lily Help

I bought a calla lily for mother's day last year and (of course) my mother who has the world's blackest thumb didn't care for it. We didn't realize that the plant would just die off after blooming and come back later so we were pleasantly surprised when in the beginning of fall, the bulbs started throwing off shoots again.

I knew it was off season but I potted it up in some fresh potting soil and the plant grew again but wimpy from lack of sunlight indoors and we didn't want to risk putting it outside since by then it was winter.

Now it's finally died off again but I'm not sure where to go from here? I know they need a dormant period of no water but for how long? And if I refresh the potting soil but still keep them potted will the plant ever grow up strong again? It didn't flower last season but we never left it out in the sun or fertilized it so that's understandable enough. Lots of questions! Any bulb gardeners please help!
