Can the bed fit in the corner next to the kitchen wall? If so, it would leave you room for living room furniture. Can you get by with a smallish bed?

I personally like more room to move around. I would get a good quality daybed or futon that looks like a couch. You'll have to look on the internet and also look at the furniture stores where you live. Ask how much they weigh and ask for the dimensions. I really don't see any benefit to use the amount of space it would take for both a bed and couch in your space.

If your budget allows, I would get a murphy bed that folds out over a sofa. Would enable you to not feel so cramped and you could actually entertain some without people having to squeeze into a room with a bed in it.
