Mine are doing well...but NO signs of flowers! I'm hoping sometime this summer it still might bloom...I know it loves humidity and we are just starting to get humid ( bad news for us) but great news for a lot of our plants lol...

Wow...that is getting monstrous...so healthy. I understand they take cool night temps to set the buds and then flowering would be following spring into summer. What is your culture with this plant...do you lean toward the dry side with it. I have mine in a peat based mix with perlite, shredded bark, hydroton, and orchid bark. I am trying to mimic its epiphytic nature. I only hope the two I potted together will look like that. I think you said morning sun it gets. Great job!

Those plants are so beautiful! Thanks for the photos - I love seeing all of your gorgeous plants! This is one of those plants I have drooled over for years... sits on my "Want" list... but I've resisted when actually having the opportunity to buy these not-inexpensive plants in Jax. I understand that they pout and moan at temps below 40F. Until recently, that would have been a problem up here in northeast Florida. If this warming trend continues, I yet may become a proud owner.

They are fine in Jax as long as you bring them in or have a greenhouse. The Medinilla myriantha is a bit hardier still goes in the gh but more sun tolerant and cold tolerant than magnifica. Better bloomer too. I give the myriantha a little afternoon sun. It rewards me w tons of blooms and berries. The magnifica likes a lot of bright indirect light. You could give it a little morning sun but no scorching afternoon sun. If you choose to gie it direct light move it into the sun slowly. If its not blooming and its leaves look healthy, its probably either not getting enough light or enough fertilizer.

If you want to try and are on ebay....keep an eye out for vendor flsunnybargains....they are in Lauderdale and that is where I got the two plants to pot together in that tall cache pot. Each plant was only 18.99 so I bought two and they were huge. Not a big cash outset if it does not work out. I still think with our heat and humidity, anywhere in the deep South can grow these, it would just be bringing them in by a slider in the winter. Every now and then I still hop on check for Medinilla and see what is available on Ebay, you have to catch the deals as they pop up. Good Luck...Joe.

I have a bloom on mine, yay!! Anyone else out there growing Medinilla magnifica?

Wow...beautiful. I had a bloom this past winter on mine but one side of the pot died due some sort of fungus. Actually it is Botrytis cinerea. Little did I know this was a known issue with these guys. My stems looked like that, like they went up in flames. Very disappointed but I have it under control and the other half of the plant flowered. I am keeping air moving with small fans and definitely raising the light levels....growers beware lol

Thanks blutayle! Sorry about the issue you had with yours but happy to hear you had a bloom. My Huge plant still hasn't bloomed but I've had to trim it as it was growing so wide and started to grow downwards...
