A photo of the cutting would help :)

I bought a cutting that that was top heavy and was cut right at the leaves. I couldn't bare to cut the leaves off so I just pushed it into the soil and placed this gnome on it to hold it down lol it worked!

If you don't have a gnome handy, you can always use a couple of rocks to hold it down ;-P

Or wooden skewers/chopsticks to hold it into place.
