Absolute best AV?

Out of curiosity, if you could only nominate/recommend one AV as "the best", what would it be and why? (

Among my minis, my best favorites would have to be Rob's Macho Devil with it's bright pink flowers over variegated foliage,

Ness's Crinkle Blue, another mini that is very frequently in bloom for me:

There are so many I could post but these are among my top favorites so I'll stop here. Serious bloom work horses but I also have a thing for variegated foliage so while they aren't always as heavy blooming, the leaves are lovely even without flowers.

Ode to Beauty would be my choice. I've been growing this beauty for many years. It's a dependable easy bloomer.

Pixie blue I suppose - it is hardy and versatile. But I also love happy Harold, pixie runaround sport and senk's snowy egret....

Well, I can't comment on this. My Wish List is 48 going on 49 volumes thick! Rosie

PS All of the above pix are fabulous!

LOL. Have no fear, Hyn! As someone who has grown numerous plants for decades, I am well aware of just how much difference there can be in a plant's performance from one home to another's. ;-) Personally, the only way AVs typically do well for me for any length of time is when grown in terraria. Most of the orchids and carnivorous plants I grow, on the other hand, require no such treatment and are so much easier for me.

i just like to see and hear about people's favorites.

Ah, very good. Is your humidity very low then where you are, Paul?

Outside, the humidity would be fine over the summer. But, indoors is another story. During the winter when the heat is on, my RH is about 15%. Have tried a room humidifier but even running 24/7, it barely makes a dent.

If I had to pick only one, Buckeye Seductress is my number one best plant. I picked that one because of the beauty of the leaves and ease of growing, it blooms a lot and is very easy to propagate, but I do have some other really great plants.

Only one? Probably Trinidad II. It's been in constant bloom for months on end!

Or Grandifolia 299. Such a free spirit!

Or maybe a mini would take the prize? Perhaps Little Sweetheart. A gorgeous, hearty, double bloom.

Or robs love bite. This one is such a stunner! I can't get over the intensity of the color.

Or maybe a variegated mini, Robs Chilly Willy. This one actually ranks really high for me. I love the blue blooms against the yellow/green/white foliage!

I can't choose just one! Lol!

Are the blooms on your Trinidad II large, Su ???

Not particularly... Well, they are larger than some, but not as large as, say, Blue Mist. The foliage is small... I've kept it small. :)

Trinidad II and Rob's Love Bite are both especially lovely, Su. Thank you for sharing them with us. I may have to try to get some leaves to try in the autumn once I'm moved. I am generally very happy with all of the Rob's hybrids I have so far. In fact I should send Ralf (Rob) an email to tell him how impressed I am with the quality of his hybrids because every mini or semi I've gotten from him have been delightful, without exception.

Buckeye Seductress when I grew it was my tied for 1st favorite plant, along with Okie Easter Bunny and Scandal. Buckeye Seductress sadly goes not lend herself to initialing ;) Aside from that, she always bloomed lots of amazing flowers, foliage was neat and lovely. Just an all star plant. Mac's Glacial Grape is currently my favorite mini, but, I have only grown, successfully, about 50 varieties of mini violets and probably have tried 400 standards, maybe 500. I was looking at old photos and I forgot I ever grew some plants!

Amy, did you mean BE Seductress doesn't propagate easily? Wasn't sure what you meant. For me it is very easy to propagate. I recently got Okie Easter Bunny and I have heard it is an excellent plant too as you have said, so am looking forward to getting the first blooms on that one.

It was a joke. I tend to abbreviate AV names, but Buckeye Seductress becomes BS so I have to write it out every time. OEB is a nice plant, it shapes nicely, doesn't get too big, and makes lots of sparkly flowers.
