Does your garden space have a wall or fence on at least one side? You could train up the cuke and squash vines to go up the fence. Zucchini is a mounding plant, not a vining plant (the ones I've seen). Those will need some space. If you use a trellis or fence consider your sunlight source. I wanted to have vines along a fence, but as the vines grow they will block the sunlight for the tomatoes so I'm rethinking that decisions.

I am planning an archway for my vines. My husband and dad keep thinking I'll plant the tomatoes under the archway and I say no, that would stunt the tomatoes. My archway is going to be low--about 4 feet high. I'm using a 4' x 16' cattle panel. It's my first time trying this. I tried growing pole beans and cukes up my fence, but II love my morning glories too much. They took over. AND I finally admitted to myself I don't water enough. This year is going to be different! (That's what I'm telling myself!)

Since I need some muscle (husband/dad) to help me get the archway built I'm hearing all of their ideas. I definitely want the archway be grounded. If you use a trellis or teepee you'll have the same concern--making sure it can handle the weight and stay in the ground.

We have a new tractor store in town and they have kiwi vines. I never heard of that, but they can grow in my area and return each year. I will need a trellis in order to facilitate their vines as they grow in the location I want to put them. Of course I want them to return for many years so I am trying to think carefully about where to plant them so I don't have to move them. If I knew then what I know now about raspberry canes I'd have planted the raspberries differently. Heidi
