It would be great if you got a decent moschata summer squash out of them that could be stabilized to be open pollinated. Even if you don't like them, I bet the poultry would.

I've never had Korean squash. What does it taste like? I'd be inclined to try some this year but not sure any stores around here sell it. I've never seen it before in any of the stores but I could've just missed it. I did see a small greenhouse in Guthrie that looks interesting. I might have to stop in there and see what they have. Probably not today of course, lol.

Melissa, we get the seeds at Kitazawa. Korean Squash. I have 2 varieties growing now. I've not yet gotten to taste them. They're c. moschata varieties which makes them resistant to vine borers.

Melissa, Here's the page with the C. moschata summer squash varieties. They taste like squash, of course! They're just tropical in origin, as are all C. moschata varieties, which means they are perfect for our summer climate. The solid vines that prevent squash vine borers from tunneling through them are my favorite thing about them. You still may get squash bugs on them but SVB damage is rare. I like them better as summer squash that the more commonly grown tromboncino squash (also C. moschata) from Italy. FYI--the only difference in winter squash and summer squash is the stage at which we harvest the fruit. So, any squash can be harvested young for fresh eating, or harvested at a more mature stage for long-term storage as a winter squash, and when allowed to mature on the vine that way, they need to be cooked, not eaten fresh. I often harvest Seminole fruit about 3-4 days after the flower is pollinated and use them as summer squash for a while before I start leaving them all on the fine to mature to winter squash for long-term storage.

Growing these Korean Summer Squash will change your life as they virtually end the battle with SVBs, which makes summer about 1,000% more fun.
