Western Red Cedar Fence Project - Advice Welcome!

The project began with the teardown of 20' of preexisting wood fence and 133' of cyclone fence. We decided on western red cedar for the new fence. Rather than standard wooden posts, I initially wanted wrought iron fence posts for the aesthetics as well as the durability. However, the wrought iron option became cost prohibitive. Instead, I chose galvanized steel posts which provide more durability than cedar and are better able to withstand strong winds. After all, we live in the windy city. Further, as the steel posts are hidden, that option sacrificed little in the looks department. We needed a total of 200' of fence. We had two gates installed- 48" in the back and 42" in the front. The fence has been up for about a month. The question I have is what product do you recommend to protect the cedar? We love the color now and am not a big fan with the way cedar turns gray. Is there a simple to apply semi transparent option that any one has personal experience with?
