However, I am at a loss as to why one would want to. Have you done a soil test to tell if fertilizer is needed? You can do damage to soil/plants by over fertilizing, and any fertilizer that doesn't get used ends up washing into ground water or surface water, adding to pollution of the water.

That is not a recommended fertilizer formulation for lawns. Lawns - especially in spring - need nitrogen and that's about it. Look for a packaged lawn fertilizer with a high first number (N) and very low or zero for the next two. Or use Milorganite, which is a highly favored naturally derived fertilizer recommended for lawn care.

Mother Nature fertilizes naturally. Let her do what she's good at without added obstacles.
