Countertop

I will have formica countertops in my new build kitchen. Which laminate color would pair nicely with espresso as well as sarsaparilla cabinets? I really like white ice granite formica but not sure if it would coordinate with my color cabinets. I also like santa maria formica. Have any of you paired laminate with these color cabs? TIA!

Get samples of your cab colors and flooring. If you're using a backsplash or wall color get a sample. Put them in your space under daylight and later in the day for evening lighting. Try the different Formica samples to see what appeals to you. You can post pics for feedback.

Thank you both for your suggestions! I do like white ice granite formica best and more recently have my eye on Calcutta Marble. I like the lighter shades, just not sure which would look best. I will do as you have suggested Dan. Here are a few flooring favorites...

I like the longer boards. The short ones are not as appealing. Too many grout lines.

Your cabinet choices are quite dark, so I'd definitely go with a light countertop and one of the lighter flooring choices. Although I like the dimensions of your middle floor sample, I'm concerned that it's way more rustic than the overall look you're going for.

dan is right about placing your samples in your space. Available light makes a remarkable difference in how things look in place. A sample color that you may love in the store may look like something that died in your kitchen. Something iffy in the store may be spectacular in place. You may find that a tree outside casts a green light on all the kitchen choices, which in turn affects which ones will look best. There is no substitute for trying things out on site.

What are you thinking in terms of an overall look? Modern and sleek? Traditional? Eclectic (see below)?

It's worth taking some time to find inspiration images so you know what you're aiming for. Google images of the choices you've already made, and look through them to see what others have done with them. Its a fantastic way to get an idea of the possibilities.

You can also make a board with your choices to date and post that. You'll get more useful input that way. I can't see the difference between espresso and sarsaparilla from looking at them in images. Are you planning to use both?

I should also mention that my other favorite cabinet choice is Aristokraft stone gray. This is my most favorite between the three but it is a full overlay laminate so not sure about peeling and future of the cab since it is not real wood. My style home will be farmhouse style so grays, whites etc. I have started ideabooks for decor, flooring etc.

So you're still at the idea stage and haven't ordered cabinets yet, is that right? Because you have a lot of painted wood farmhouse images, whereas your dark wood images tend not to be very farmhouse-like. And, of course, my idea of the farmhouse kitchen is a lighter wood entirely, but a wood tone, as opposed to a painted cabinet.

This type of farmhouse kitchen allows you to consider the less expensive, all black Formica as well - if you like the look.

I don't see the darker cabs as farmhouse style but gray cabs that are real wood are unfort out of our price range. Not sure of the integrity or lasting of the laminate gray cabs.

Cabinets have not been ordered yet.

If you haven't ordered the cabinets yet, you are still free to look for options that fit your image of a farmhouse kitchen. Have you considered ready-to-assemble cabinets, like Barker Cabinet? You can order paint grade wood cabinets and doors from them and paint them (or have them painted) any color you want.
