We might be able to squeeze some new granite countertops into the budget-- but I'm afraid to make that rather expensive decision with the floor being so.... pink.

It seems to pop more with you 3 "new" colors. Have you tried a darker brown?

What about a rug? My aunt had a beautiful rug in her kitchen and it really made the space pop. There are so many options to choose from, they can look great and be easy to clean. I agree that the painted cabinets emphasize the floor color, but in the meantime what about painting just the walls?

I would leave the cabinets alone and just play with wall color first. What about a muted green? This pic has a pinkish floor that plays well with the wall color...

jck910, I would love deeper walnut cabinets and it seems a crime to paint instead of re-finishing the cabinets because I'm told they are very high end custom cabinets. But the room already feels quite dark with a medium tones so I think darker cabinets would worsen the problem (which is why even though I love the navy, I don't think it's the best plan).

njharris, I think a rug is a good idea-- perhaps some outdoor style to combat my three sons' footprints as they trek through constantly. I just found this picture-- and I like it. I don't love it, but I like it. We can't replace the stove as the existing one is very nice and almost new. But I wonder if another China blue element (backsplash, maybe?) would take the kitchen more in a French Mediterranean direction instead of a southwestern Texas direction...?

Loannabeek I think you could definitely introduce pops of blue! If you decide to go with the rug, it can play up the French Mediterranean look and a nice wall color will really minimize the tile!

Painting the base of the center island would help I think. I tried iron ore on SW ColorSnap app and it made a difference. You can play around with colors and see what you think.
Changing the backsplash and painting walls help too. The stove would be beautiful. Changing the hood vent would break up that room color. You may be able to paint it, I just can't tell from the photo.

that floor is beautiful. terra cotta. have a floor specialist who does that tile, come in and rehab it. He may be able to tone down the pink and deepen the darker tones.

I love the navy, but also think a sage or patina green color would look very nice. Look at Spanish Style kitchens here on Houzz to get an idea of the coloring.

cobalt, turquoise, copper, patina green, and black, look so, so good w/that coloring. I would love that floor!

If you did white cabs and the navy island, then a tile backsplash in something like this would look very nice. Copper hardware

love the French/Med style you mentioned. Blues/whites/patina greens/ copper/black and the natural wood, would all look amazing. since the countertops are green, I'd prob lean more towards a blue/green than a navy.

I just want to say that I wish I had that floor. It is beautiful. I understand if it's not you're style because I don't like a lot of things that are very expensive and that most people like. But, the floor is gorgeous. A rug is a quick cheap disguise, or someone who knows what they are doing might be able to alter the color in the tile.

Or even refinishing the floor to ceiling cabinet on the right a darker color. You need large interesting elements to draw your eyes away for the floor and have it in the background.

I raised six children and couldn't have imagined a rug in the kitchen. But now with indoor outdoor rugs it's definitely a possibility.

I have an indoor/outdoor rug in my kitchen to protect the hardwood floor and it's filthy all the time. I must be a messy cook. Supposed to be able to hose it off but that didn't work very well

I concur with cpaul1 that this lovely kitchen deserves better than what you can accomplish here. Not at all knocking the amazing help that can be found here, but I think it would do your home a disservice to try to solve it here vs with someone who can actually be in your home with you. Personally I don't think you can make the floor disappear, but I do think that with the right lighting and use of color, you can make it less visually pink. I would try to find someone who really specializes in color. All pros are trained in it, but some have a passion for it and develop a really deep knowledge of it, understanding more than most how the eye perceives color and what influences it. Are you by any chance in the TN area? I've used someone there who is excellent at solving this type of problem.

I actually like it! Probably wouldn't pick it out, but I think you could ruin it by painting the cabinets. Everything so white right now, but an article I just read said that terra-cotta flooring is going to be very popular by the end of this year and into next year. I think a different light fixture would go a long way in making the space feel more casual.

First off, if you think you want darker cabinets but you think the issue is lighting, why not try the same app and see what it looks like with darker cabinets? Then if you like it invest in better lighting. A lot of times the problem is there isn't enough good lighting in kitchens. You can get under cabinet lighting that is LEDs and change bulbs from yellow to white to brighten things up a bit. It might change the look of the tiles though so you might want to do some trials first to see how it looks. Notice the cabinets you see here that have a pinkish tint to them and might blend well with what you already have in your flooring? If you are trying to update and get away from that style though, that is a complete different thing.

Soapstone counters with white uppers and white walls would look killer with your existing wood lower cabinets and refrigerator wall. Don't paint your cabinets (other than the few uppers) as your floor will only stand out more. Soapstone all the way. The subtle green striations in it will pick up the accent in the floor. I love the terracotta!

Freshening up everything from the counters up (including a new pendant) will go a long way.....

Just change the backsplash to a brighter and contrasting color and get 2 long and narrow runners for each side of the kitchen that has similar color to whatever backsplash that you select

I think a light gold/cream, like Harp String or Corn Silk. And then use a coco stain overtop to antique. Of course wipe off and you can place the stain where you want darken. The Creamy color of the Cabinets, warm up the tone of the floor. Change the color of counters to a dark brown/with black or the other way around. You can also get products that can go right over top the existing counters, mostly if funds are tight. They come out beautiful! If you want to add a little color in a cabinet or two....A island is a great idea, add a heathered tone, a shade that has a little Blk or Brn. Just don't use a bright hue or a cool pastels.
