Your tree looks amazing! I love how the branches drape over the pot. I still am considering a red finger lime from Logees but I am waiting to see if my Green AFL will be enough for me ;) It arrives tomorrow from FW and I can't wait to see how it looks, hopefully since its a premium sized tree it will give me flowers this year!

Thank you guys! I did not think much of this little tree when I got it from Logees. Vladimir told me where to get it and I think his is blooming also. Amanda, you need to get one! Kcandmilo, I hope your Mom recovers well. I'm sorry you are going through that. Sammers, I have a green one but it does not grow as quickly as this one. The green one I have is grafted on dwarfing stock and is a much slower grower. Brian, you need to talk to your supplier up there. Mike - thank you, that means a lot from you! As you saw above, it came from Logees in your neck of the woods. Brian, I was about to write up a post to you bc I got some of that ProMix...not the exact one you have because they do not get that here in the US. I showed them the pic at the farm center and they looked it up in their catalog. I love that stuff! I just planted some herbs and flowers in it for my front porch. I removed the old compacted soil and put in the ProMix...it is nice and fluffy and one bag of it goes a long way because it fluffs up. I suspect the plants will be very happy in it. I am considering putting some of that in my barrels that I use to grow veggies. I may need to go get another bag of it.

Mike, I thought of you when I smelled it bc I know how you love the fragrance. However, the smell is not of a citrus blossom...it is like those old roses that don't exist anymore bc they have bred them for looks now. It is a wonderful scent - very strong. Now, it does not permeate the air the way meyer or other blossoms do...perhaps the tree is too small, not to mention that only a few buds are open. Tomorrow I should have a bunch more open.

Hi Laura so glad you like the pro mix. It's amazing how much abuse it can take even in in the worst rainstorms it stays nice and airy. Laura there are many types of the pro mix and it seems every year they add new products . The one I use is the general purpose and we plant our veggies in pots with the pro mix and they love it and so do our flowers . Keep us updated as the summer goes by love to know how your herbs and veggies turn out .

Brian, how long does the mix last? Do you replace the mix every year for your veggies? I was considering getting more but not sure I want to replace it every year...

Hi Laura we usually throw the plant and the soil out every fall , by the end of the summer it seems that there are more roots then the potting mix . Sometimes we will keep a couple of the pepper plants in the GH for the winter they do just fine . I have a 4 yr old green pepper plant in the GH now in the same mix it was planted in.

My red finger lime has a few fruit the size of rice grains on it now and is putting out some more blossoms. Green finger lime just starting to blossom. Both are putting out new growth.

That tree is adorable Laura! My tree is quite large but I have only ever seen a couple of flowers. It seems to be a very rapid grower though, it is in good shape coming out of winter so fingers crossed this is my year for fruit!

That is one good looking plant. Mine did not produce flowers last year or this year. I should fertilize.

Thank you guys! Vladimir, I remember yours flowered before mine. I thought mine would not this year so it was a pleasant surprise. I don't think this little tree lost a leaf this winter. Frankly, I barely paid attention to it other than watering, etc. It was in a remote corner of my sunroom, but did have a prime spot by the windows. I hope at least one lime sticks. Let me know how you guys' fare!

I got my finger lime a couple weeks ago, not a red one, however. It is full of lovely blooms! I'll go back out and sniff! Weather here - currently western CT - is sometimes iffy. So on dubious nights my citrus gets dragged back into the garage... I am hoping fruit will develop!

Laura, what does it look like today? Is it still loaded with buds!? You know what I love most about it? The way it cascades...Just awesome. Looks like a Bonsai one too. You got yourself a real gem there)))

I ordered some Red finger lime seeds, and I wonder do you people know if these are faster/slower maturing trees compared to faster citruses like kumquats or calamondins?

Anyhow, it's probably going to end as a bonsai'ish plant so the fruits are not a priority.

These guys have some serious thorns on them. And yes. They are Australian native plants.

Well, after some research on google it seems these Finger limes are slow to mature. But I'm still going to try and grow it from seed and have it as a bonsai project for years to come. It will be the first citrus as bonsai for me, other bonsai's are Ficus microcarpa, Caragana arborescens and Tamarindus indica. All from seed, young trainees.

I also have one overwintered chili, C.annuum 'Indian chili bullet', which is turning to a nice dense little tree.

I would definitively like to grow all my plants big, but here's not enough space :D Just only the banana will take a huge space, in the autumn it will be a difficult puzzle to make room for everyone under the lights.

Wow those are so cool! Mine came through winter well and it bursting out with new growth. Still no fruiting though. The red variety looks amazing!

My little guy has several fruits, and is covered with blossoms again! I am so excited. But none are plump like Laura's yet, more like Vladimir's rat turds :)

I am very envious! I saw two small buds on mine a few weeks ago and was so excited then a few days later I went to water again and they were just gone. I root pruned and potted it up yesterday so unless it decides to bloom later this season I think I am out of luck for this year. If I can ever justify the cost/shipping from logees I think you have convinced me to order a Red as well. It's a beautiful plant.

LOL, yes they do look like rat turds! I have lots of them on my tree so I hope to have some to try later in the year. It seems happy enough although one of the main branches has been cracked (you can see it in the pic) courtesy of Enzo. It was quite a while ago and continues to grow and produce, so I am just treading very gently...

Aargh, I went out to take pics of my AFL for this thread to show the lovely blooms, and realized that I've been in denial about the twig dieback! I had a lot of snails in that area so I had assumed the missing leaves and brown twigs were a result of the snails, but after reading about twig dieback on the kumquats, I realized I better not take this lightly! I'd be grateful for any feedback on this little AFL.

But first the good news: here are the new flowers!

Now the bad news: the west side of the tree has significant brown twigs

Some of my twigs have died also. I cut them off. The plant seems healthy otherwise. Dieback has stopped.

Laura - they are beautiful. didn't take long for ur plant to bloom . myou neither red nor green finger limes has ever bloomed n this is the 2nd year n the red one is quite big around 4ft

Little ruby, Judy's everbearing, Crimson tide, Rainforest Pearl, Green Sapphire, Wauchope, Jali red, Rick's red, Collette.

I'm not convinced they're all different though.

Are they Easy to raise from seed? Your trees look amazing

I have one I'm raising from seed it's horribly slow. If possible at all get a grafted or cutting because the seeds don't necessarily grow the same quality limes as the parent. Here's another photo of the one they call "little ruby"

I'm a click away from ordering one but is it worth the space for the taste? I think I joined the rank of collectors with ten different varieties already. Lots of trees moving in and out the house for seasonal changes.

Susanne, our local nurseries carry them often, and so I picked up one a couple years ago! This is the first year it has bloomed and fruited, but so far the size has been so small, (I think it is about two feet tall and one wide) I wouldn't think space would be an issue! I liked the idea of little popping bubbles of lemon and thought it worth the chance! :)

Beautiful trees, guys! The little blooms are lovely and if the blooms smell like old garden roses as Laura wrote then it would be a plus, but I just need to get past the thought of the fruit as rat turds and fish eggs.. Lol :D

Nick, do you treat your red's any differently to get them to color up?

They don't always colour up - I have a red type that is always clear and a pink type that shows no colour either. Even on the same tree as those really red ones I get some with no colour.

Interesting, I just ordered a red (they don't specify what kind) from Logees and they told me it may or may not color up depending on growing conditions. People have suggested it may be similar to blood oranges requiring chilling hours but I guess I will find out with experimentation. I hope mine will look half as good as yours some day. My green AFL just got super dried out during a heat wave we had which I was on bed rest and all of its leaves are crispy, I am hopeful it will make a recovery.

Sammers, I got mine from Logees also. It is a great little tree.

I have no idea if mine is red or green, I didn't even know to ask when I bought it! I'll be pleasantly surprised when the fruit eventually ripens! I certainly didn't know how long the fruit take from flower to pickability! Laura, it was pretty much due to you that I now have a Calamondin, so yes, enablers abound on this board :)
