Master Bedroom Woes! PLEASE HELP!!!

My husband is returning
to a healthy lifestyle after being ill. I'm now trying to spark up the
flames by bringing and elegant flare to our master bedroom. We have just
purchase a new bedroom set, put down hardwood floors and painted, but the
overall room need LOTS of help.

I am willing to hire a professional, but on a tight budget for this project, as I have several other projects being completed.

See photos - BR picture one has the old headboard laying on the way, the entryway to the master bathroom. Any design suggestions and/or photos of designs would be greatly appreciated. WE need the works, from drapes to artwork.

My preferred colors are gold/brass tones, chocolate, reds, burnt orange, cream/ivory. I would like the room to be bright and luxurious. We need our FLAME back - J

I will upload a picture of the sitting area later.

Thank you in advance.

Hi CeeJay, first of all, congratulations on your husband's recovery. In selecting items for your refresh, I would look at mostly light colored objects

to balance out the dark and large-scale furniture. Cream and gold could be lovely. Look at bedding in those colors, and limit your "fire tones" like red or orange to small accents only. Those warm colors are not restful for a bedroom...and kind of like hot sauce, it only takes a couple dashes to make an impact. I would definitely look for a larger-scale lamp with a fuller body and shade, to better balance with the scale of your bed. Could be tinted glass, metallic or porcelain. And I can't tell if you have room for an overhead light fixture (due to bed height) - but if so, evaluate that. A crystal flush mount light could be sexy. If you want to paint the walls, choose that color LAST- you'll have infinite choices in paint color, while your textiles and art may be more limited. Hope that helps!

What do you leant toward? Modern with a lot of color or more traditional. I think it should be lightened up.... It is always hard as we don't know the age of a person or what have you. I can only tell you what might look good and serene. I'm thinking serene with a fluffy inviting bed..... Do you have a spot for a round mirror over a?

I just want to brighten the space not necessarily with a ton of color.

I guess the best way to put it is I'm seeing a, "romantic" bedroom vs. a ton of color.

Since your the top of your bed is very high I see 3 box mirrors such as these. Very simple and lovely with the dark wood and white bedding.

Lamps such as this with white shades and glass or silver

To the left of the entry to the master is the wall on the longer side or is there a dresser or other there?

PaintColorHelp.com Dallas - love the lamp and the other peices you sugested, when can I get them?

@Porter Edun where can I find these mirrors? Thanks

The gold lamp and black shade is LOVELY, however be careful of the size of your night stands. I found some art for you... I'm leaning very neutral so have not sent :(

I think adding a zebra element is nice in to this with silvers!

They are ex. 16x16 ea. so you will probably only use three above the bed and could put another on a small wall area in the room or similar to tie it in.

I don't think it plays in with this as it has a lot of yellow and the reviews you might read as I did not. Let me make a board for you to see all things together.... it will take a short time. If my program is co operative!

this is simply inspiration for lamps and art which is minimal and not full of color. Trying to get around all the dark furniture and keep it bright. We can certainly add color. I just want you to be aware your bedside tables are not large so you need to be careful of the base of the lamp for the table top.

I can add zebra or cheetah if you like to the board, but I can't at this moment yet will be happy to when I can actually sit as I'm East coast time and it's nearing time to start dinner. Just let me know your criticism and your likes or what have you. It's completely fine. Keep in mind..... all is very heavy and dark in the room and IMO that is the bed will be fluffy white and pure with it's layers agains the dark wood and a throw you can add two pillows with texture such as zebra or cheetah if you like as well.

we aren't together in the same room so tell me what you like if anything and we will draw more up from there adding pillows and so on. Do you want a bench at the foot of the bed... fabric covered that is if you have plenty of room for it. Might be a good spot for him to sit and get in to PJ's or what have you!

@Porter Edun, our bench will be delivered this weekend. I wouild like comfortable large and small pillows, a nice throw blanket to tie in with the ensemble.

what is appealing to you if any at all above? If nothing, that is ok too.... the pillows were for the bed... the Mongolian faux fur was some texture and it's very fluffy and ties in as you can see with most anything.... However, I just need a guide.. you want more color then say it and I'll do a board.... if you want a ton more color say so...Yet, I feel less is more as it's all dark and heavier furniture is all.... yet, it is your room and you should be happy with it!

I see the larger knife edge pillows behind your bed pillows (as seen here) all white and then what do you lean toward if any above?

I like where this is going with the animal prints. I think some Cheetah or Zebra accents would be great for what you're going for. Some affordable options you might like:

    Cheetah Fleece Serpa, Home Depot

    Amazon

    King Size Zebra Fleece, Walmart

cjdan2.... are you wanting gold lamps, glass or silver tone bases? That way we can better pick around it all. I just need to know what inspiration on the boards you lean toward and if none we can revisit...... no worries at all.

@ Porter Edun - thinking about using tall gold glass candle sticks on the chest, I'm wanting the gold lamps and loving the animal print pillows.

Porter Edun I have a black and white photo of my husband and I, one of our pre-wedding photo shoot, would like to have it enlarged maybe canvas or frame and placed just above the bed, your thoughts?

That sounds great...!!!!! However your headboard is very, very high and it would have to be long and narrow! Is there another area you can put it say... adjacent to the entry to the master bath or if not too large above the higher dresser? I think that is a LOVELY idea... he would be so happy with that. If above the dresser make sure you know the length of the dresser so you have a bit of area on each side so it doesn't take up the whole distance of top of the dresser... would it hang vertical or horizontal...

If you have one of your husband and it's smaller black and white I'd put it between the two mirrors I sent you the link of keeping the size (16x16 over all) the same as the mirrors. A tiny mat around the picture with a muted silver frame.

I'm assuming the wedding shoot photo you might want a bit larger yet you can take three photos of this time in your life if you like and do the same above the bed about 16x16 black and white with tiny mat to make it look richer rather than just a picture in a frame..... typically, it is best in this case to do: 1, 3, 5 and so on in odd numbers. They can make a color photo black and white as well if you need a third! PPL tend to space the photos/art to far apart when doing a row as such so you would not want a ton of space between. To get an idea you can take some painters tape and cut it to the size and tape it to the wall as photos so you can see size and how you want them places... JUST not too far apart and you can better tell the sizes if you don't want to do the mirror and the hubby photo above only!

Which gold lamps are you most interested in keeping in mind the rest has to be tied in. I can search them for you if not the one I sent you. Throws are easy as are toss pillows... if you are on board with a white bed incl. sheets and knife edge shams. This is for your night stands correct? So, the base should not be too vast as they are smaller....

Porter Edun I'm going with the white bed and knife edge shams, the gold lamps you sent. I will need panels - also staying with the brighten the room effect - so cream/white panels, floor to ceiling. (Are you referreing to to the mirrows below)?

I was speaking of the mirrors below to tie in with a single photo of your husband for above the bed if you wanted to the the other black and white photo larger of the two of you pre wedding shoot. Otherwise.. you could do three photos of the two of you.. I'd stay in the size of the mirrors as the head board is so very high... I only recommended matte as they look a bit more expensive than sticking a photo in a frame... I'd go with muted gold or muted silver frames if you do this.

I'll search the lamps again and send them to you. I want you to check the height and all to make sure they are fine on your bed side tables as I do not know the size, but they are smaller in scale.

I'm East coast time so if you are not I will be back to you as soon will be cooking dinner.... husbands b-day today....

Yes, Panels are easy.... what is the paint color on the wall you just painted?

Do you have a Home Goods in your area?

would you mind sending me your email? If not I can send you mine.

    Pacific Coast

    Ripley Table Lamp

it comes in two colors so you want the muted gold. It is at Macy's with 10% off yet you pay tax.... it is also all over the place so you might want to search it. You can see it at Macy's next to a bed it is a good scale for a bed side lamp. Bed/Bath/Beyond as well if you get a hold of two 20% off coupons..... the price is the same all over, yet I'm all about saving!

Porter Edun Happy Birthday to hubby. If you don't mind, please send me your email. I love the ideas of the mirror and pictures. The muted gold lamps will look beautiful on the night stand. The paint is the standard builder's paint, antique cream ( not sure if that is the correct name) - We do have a Home Goods store. Thanks so much for all you suggestions, they are really good ones.

    porter.edun and it's gmail

I suggest Home Goods as it's a great resource for the builder I work for and our model homes. We have a small warehouse were a lot of the decor is actually from Home Goods. If it is dated it goes... however... many wonderful option for toss pillows and throws and decor for table tops/lamps and so on I get there. Problem being with lamps is there is one and you want two and so on.. it's more for decor we use them.

They have many window panels as well which I have not purchased, yet have noted... not sure they would be long enough as I think you might want to go above the window frame... they DO HAVE great pricing on hardware for hanging curtains and many different styles where I go which I've seen and am amazed at the prices..... I have not had the need to purchase them, but took note for friends and so on.

send me a note when you email so I can check. I still work two 10 hour shifts in at the hospital with my other job so may not check as quickly as you might expect so telling me will be helpful.

Thank you for the b-day wishes!

@Porter Edun our television swings out, and I'm looking to add something under the TV, maybe a large bowl, any suggestions? Thanks

You definitely do a larger bowl to one side with candles on the other or a mirrored rectangle tray with some candles on it.... simple clear glass holders with ivory candles....... I've send you some ideas.....

Lovely sitting area.... you are leaving it as is...correct? Just panels?

PJ's?? Two dozen big fluffy pillows to carefully take off the bed? Candles to light (very dangerous!)?

By the time all that happens, the moment has passed!

Please, pease ask your husband to tell you how he wants the bedroom to look. It belongs to both of you and I bet he has an opinion. If you two get to talking and make it fun, you'll come to an agreement on something and that room WILL be romantic!
