Thanks, Amazindirt. It's interesting to see that there are now several of these with pale splotches.

Somehow I still prefer the Tie Dye - type 3, cream rather than red center boss.

It looks like the Tie Dye markings are more clear than on the other two.

I went ahead and bought a "Tie Dye" plant from Hirt's. I've had pretty good luck with them in the past, and their plants are cheap and arrive healthy (though I've never bought a clematis from them before this). Now I just have to wait and see if it's true to label!

I really like Galaxy. I finally planted Tie Dye on a trellis after having it in my pot ghetto for years.

The baby Tie-Dye I got from Hirts was a one-cane wonder and the cane broke before I planted it, unfortunately, but I potted it up (quite deep) anyway and I'm waiting to see what it does. Crossing my fingers!

It should sprout out more stems for you. alfalfa pellets will help.
