I just lifted about 20 shade plants under an old pecan tree. I intend to add 3-4" of compost and replant them tomorrow. My question is do you all dig out around your trees like the Dirt Doctor recommends? Exposing the flare of the root system??

Now is the time for me to do this if you all think this is a good thing. If I need to, I will remove a few inches of this crappy soil so I don't pile it up around the trunk.
