Personally, my biggest bit of advice about planting clematis is to plant them deep! Think of them like a tomato, and plunk that rootball down several inches deeper than it has been growing in the pot. The plant will thank you for it and be much sturdier.

Oh that is one of my favorite clematis and no kidding my favorite rose in my garden! I think they would look pretty together!

I read from silver star finery to also tip the root ball to a 45 degree angle . I tried that this year, with all my new ones. I guess there's no way to know for sure how helpful it is but my clematis are all doing well . I've never grown a clematis into a rose , is that what you will be doing ? If so I hope you'll share the result with us :)

Hi Lilyfinch! Yes that's what I'd like to do. Just not sure how to proceed with spacing. My TG is 2nd year own root. Also the CdB looks to be an older plant and not sure if I should cut it back after planting since it's a bit into spring. Clematis is so confusing to me even with all the guidance everyone has given me! Lol
