hmmm i sorta like it :-)

the rug is nice. wall color is not. change the wall color to a very pale bluish/gray. oh, paint the trim on mantel. the warm oak and wall color go w/each other, but the cool toned rug doesn't. change the other two or get a different rug.

I like it too. I think the problem maybe the heaviness of your black furniture- they carry a lot of weight, the chair looks good. you could try with 'ethnic print' fabric pillows, blue/black/cream on the couches & heavy in texture, throws too. trying to compensate for something you really don't like is futile. a domino theory that still may fail in your eyes. too late to return it? could it be used in another room?

I agree, I really do like the rug but think the wall color is the problem. Lightening up the walls will make the rug fit into the room much better. The color of the walls currently also clashes with your fireplace mantel in my opinion.

Paint the fireplace a gray that complements the gray in the rug....on my screen your walks look very gold/warm..do you know the paint color? I actually love golds with gray and black....but you still need to layer in neutrals...

The rug's not my style, but I think it's nice (just not with that couch). And I don't, in general, get the point of putting a rug on top of a carpet. I know people do it, but I don't get it.

And you have the rug all wrong. It's clearly white with a light blue background.

The rug is wonderful, but it is clashing with the paint/fireplace/carpet. If you plan on keeping the rug it might be useful to try to mesh all of these pieces together. Can you paint the walls? Maybe paint the fireplace mantel? Put in hardwood floors?
