Good to hear that!

That's one of the things I love about old heirlooms---they became treasured heirlooms, passed down from one generation to the next, precisely because they are so hardy and able to tolerate a wide range of conditions. I'm sure there's tons of varieties we've never heard of that prior generations weeded out and let die because they did not have the same qualities of toughness and being able to survive difficult conditions. I've been surprised how much cold both watermelons and winter squash plants and fruits can take in the autumn. It defies the stereotype of them being hot weather lovers.

Sometimes I like to talk about "crops which grow like weeds." There are certain varieties which have this trait. It sure helps with one is gardening in Oklahoma!
