A deciduous azalea such as 'Golden Sunset'?

Not much of a shrub guy, but agree it would be some type of azalea.

Deciduous azalea and quite an ancient one, at that.

Google 'Exbury azaleas' and you'll be treated to an array of stunning blossoms. The gardens at Exbury are worthy of a pilgrimage in spring, and Kew Gardens has a huge collection, also. I can see why people stop and ask him what that is!

you're far enough south i'd think one of the exbury (deciduous) azaleas...although any of the lights series (so named because all the names have "lights" in them...northern lights, white lights, mandarin lights, etc) from the u of mn would also be similar in superb spring flower.

locally, this has been a stellar year for spring blossoms. I can't recall a more perfect spring for flowering plants.

Wish I could say the same thing. For the most part, azaleas and rhodies have been great! But earlier flowering things got zapped by a very cold March after a very mild Feb. Burford and some of the earliest holly blooms got zapped (so no berries this year), Distyllium flowers gone, many Camellia blooms gone at peak, Loropetalum blooms gone -- at least for me in Northern VA.

OK - I asked because R austrinium is apparently hardy to z8 or 9. Would that cover Maryland?

Rhododendron Austrinium is hardy to z6, I believe. The first time I saw it was a large specimen in z7a.

Pic was taken in Maryland, USA. I asked the owner and he said it was planted by his mother many years ago. I guess we will call it yellow, deciduous azalea.
