Thoughts on these brass pulls?

I need to decide on pulls for our closet doors this week, and just got our first sample in. I was originally going for this look -- big brass statement handles that were 2-3 feet long:

or:

or:

but I couldn't find any like this that didn't cost an arm and a leg (several of the above ones are custom), and I need a bunch. So I found these, which are smaller. I think I like them, but they don't make quite the statement, so I'm having a hard time deciding. These will be visible from the front entry, as this space is just off the foyer, and on closets throughout the house:

any thoughts? should I keep looking for larger ones, or are those too trendy/trying too hard?

larger ones are more of a statement that's for sure..so if it's possible i'll find larger..but i know some sizes can be really hard to find and become very expensive when non-standard. then i'd compromise, these are nice enough

trendy? well this is metal..to me metals-they all are metals..they're not trying too hard lol. i don't get this trendy thing about metals. you can like it or not, or the finish can be good or bad..that rounds it up for me

as long as it works in your space and you like it yourself-it's a-go

Your family are likely the only people who would know these aren't your first choice. I think they look fine, and much easier to grasp than any of the pricier examples you have show above.

I like these. They make the statement "This is a Closet" which I prefer to the original "This is a CLOSET!!!" but still much more of a statement than "(this is a closet.)".

I think the smaller ones you're considering are much nicer than any of the inspiration pics. I like those pulls very much. Simple, stylish, and not so "in your face." I agree with Pal that the statement loses impact when repeated.

I don't know if you have full height runs of closets or not, but I actually am using L shaped edge pulls that are about 2-1/2" long on most of the closets. I wanted my statement to be more like "This is a wall of equal wood panels with narrow reveals around them" rather than "this is a closet".

I think it depends upon how much emphasis you want on the builtins and secondary (or tertiary) doors.

I don't think there is anything wrong with using different but related hardware for different levels of emphasis on different sets of storage.

Sorry, but I think the inspiration pulls make the cabinets look like lockers, especially the last ones.

In these limited pix, I like the strong-statement ones far more than the modest ones. To me, if utility handles are not somehow a fine feature, as those could be, they should be hidden or effaced, attention drawn to something that is a fine feature.

But my own choice of those would seriously depend on how they related to other lines and themes in that area of the house. Seems to me those dominant ones should be an important element in an overall design that the smaller ones just won't fulfill, or why do them?

My own taste is for subtler backgrounds, elegantly simple or richly elaborate, that set of art and other special personal items displayed on them, but if a pattern of door handles is meant to be significant art, an architectural feature, then make it good.

thanks for the input, april, my3dogs, pal, foriisnotpleased, idaclaire, Delilah66, and hamamelis.

pal, I originally thought I wanted to put a lot of emphasis on these doors, but now I am questioning why I wanted to do that in the first place. If we use these on all our closet doors, the impact wouldn't be as great, as you point out, and we would be eating into our decorating budget, which I don't want to do. These closet doors are adjacent to a room with the same set of closet doors, so we'd have to use them at least twice for consistency reasons. We could do other pulls on the other closets (and I found some Sugatsune ones that I love that are less), but we'd need at least 8 of these.

hamamelis, i don't disagree that the longer ones are more beautiful and impactful, but there are a lot of strong statements in this home -- the lighting and art are bold, etc. I spent some time over there this afternoon and looking at our finishes, and I think I've come to the conclusion that I want to let the handles be more simple and let the other pieces be the heroes.

fori, ha! yes, I think the brass finish makes a little statement without being too in your face. We had initially considered black and that got thrown out because it seemed a bit dull.

Also, I can't really justify the cost
of a number of extravagant set of handles -- one of the quotes I got
from a custom guy was $450 per pull. !!! Also, these will be highly
used pulls, as this area off the foyer is our are where backpacks, shoes, etc will be dumped and our charging station. So
function is important as well, and some of these longer handles don't
look as functional as the short ones.

Sounds like you've arrived at a good understanding of what you want, Pipdog. Great.

Aside: $450 each??!! Extra great. I like brass, just purchased another nice brass lamp at an auction, but this is a perfect example of how limited purchasing power means I can decorate to much higher quality in traditional styles. Beautifully elegant and simple of equal quality, and by definition almost always new, modern as an overall look is basically out of reach, short of gutting our retirement account. :)
