Does it develop darker edges later in the season? Does it have fragrant flowers?

It doen't seem to develope the darker edges. I don't recall fragrant flowers.

Then it is not Guacamole. Perhaps another one? Keep trying.

Maybe I never noticed the scent. I know at sme point I purchased guac and nothing else comes close to it's size and color in my hosta bed. I will keep an eye out for later edging and a check for scent when it blooms. Thanks, Babka.

I'm thinking Sum and Substance.

Jim, I looked that one up and in photos it does appear to be Sum and Substance....are the leaves if Sum and Substance somewhat thinner - ie blow in the wind?

SS has some of the thickest leaves ...all large H can blow in the wind ..

its not fully extended.. so that makes ID harder ... keep coming back during the season with new pix ...

'Guacamole' leaves are thinnish, if there is such a word. Pay attention to the flowers, if it is G the flowers will be very pale, almost white, fragrant but you may have to stick your nose in them. It may have been sold to you as being 'Guacamole' but it won't be the first time a plant gets mis-labelled, it could easily be an all-green sport out of G such as 'Fried Green Tomatoes' for instance.

Just for the helluvit I looked at the registration for both 'Guacamole' and 'Fried Bananas' and Bob Solberg gave 5-6 veins in his registrations back when, quite obviously registration didn't happen from mature specimens which typically show 9-11 vein pairs....so much for registration details helping out in identification...

Ok - the hosta in question now has a bud - ? scape - and it is late June in NJ The leaves which appeared thin and blowing in wind

are now sturdier. Still all lime green. No scent. Could it be Key West? I was getting ready to visit Key West for first and only time when these were planted as starter plugs 4 years ago. It would be something I would do to commemorate a destination. Than you for any help.

Starting to look like Sum and Sustance. I had Key West for a few years before it died, it was yellow. I'm not sure about SandS, mine is in a far off corner of an ivy field and I don't get a close up look often.

Just visited Hosta Library - Key West photos do not have piecrusting as the OPs shows in recent photos. I have a KW but it is not mature yest so the leaves are more like the last photo in the Library. Very smooth edges...

Thank you, Josephine. I am outside in shade garden and came across my labeled Key Lime. It is young. I will try to find Hosta Library.. My Key Lime seems to have color variation..
Hard for me to figure out when unlabeled as it seems the leaves often appear different depending on the amount of sun/shade. I am still at a loss as to the unidentified Hostas in my garden. They just don't look like other peoples quacs. I think I would remember if I had purchased Fried Green Tomatoes. Waiting for the bloom to open so I can smell it and check color.

Oh dear, your Key Lime does not have "color variation" it has HVX. So sad to tell you.

You probably have more than color variation on that Key Lime. Looks a lot like HVX, sorry.

Oh no - have to look up what to do. I am assuming I have to dig it out. Hoping it is contained to this one hosta.

Than you all for your help. Ok - I will dig the Key Lime and disinfect shovel. Thankfully, it is not large and I should be able to easily get out affected plant tissue/roots. Am I correct to assume I can replant this site with something other than a hosta? I am learning so much.

Ken, my old pup used to plow through my hostas chasing squirrels. Sadly, she passed in September, 2016 so this is first growing season without trampling damage. I will check depth, but I think this bed will leap next year (as long as I remain pupless).

So far, the SS are the tallest hostas in my bed. I am working on the spacing...
