Maybe a further investigation into the Bromeliad Information section of the F.C.B.S. site (http://fcbs.org/_index.php) might contain some info about your plant.

Turns out- its not "mauve" but "peach" and its a large Tillandsia and yes- it does keep that color all year.

One bit of info I found was- keep it in light shade. Sun will cause it to turn grey. So,its now in light shade and not in full sun.
