Yes, they still need water when they bloom.

How often and how much depends on your culture. Can you give us some more information about how you grow your phals?

Where in the world do you live?

Are they grown indoors or out?

What type of media are they grown in?

How often do you currently water them?

How much light do they get (direct, indirect, lights etc)?

I live in N. Georgia zone 7a/b. I grow on my shaded porch in summer and winter in the sunroom. I have 2 in bloom right now and have not yet put them outside. Growing in Better grow bark mix. I water between 1 - 2 weeks depending on when they get dry. They are in the sunroom that faces north but has Windows on east and west sides most of the light they get is indirect. What prompted my question is that the one in blooms flowers seemed to start wilting shortly after I watered it and I have had others in the past whose flowers lasted much longer before getting ready to drop. Thx.

If the blooms wilting is related to watering, it would be too little watering. I would not imagine going 2 weeks without watering unless the bark mix is extremely broken down (mushy) or your humidity is at 90% all day every day.

Do you fertilize? It's possible that there is salt or mineral build up and the media may need to be flushed out with water. Did temps dip or skyrocket? That can cause wilting. Was there any mechanical damage? Any signs of bugs or disease?

It's very unlikely that it's related to watering your phal, so I would look for other culprits.

I do fertilize 1/4 strength every watering but flush with plain water once a month. When the orchids are in the house they don't usually need watering weekly in winter, but when the temps rise they do. Our temps here in N GA have fluctuated greatly recently between cold and hot. Now that I think of it, this orchid is a newer one that I have not reported yet, didn't want to in winter and then it was in bloom. I think you may have hit it on the head as the medium appears to be breaking down. I will repot soon as it's done blooming. The others are song great! Thanks for your input.
