Comsan Kan's seeds / KHZ DHA

I just received the KHZ DHA from Comsan Kan. Currently, I am soaking them. Hopping for a golden DHA and a few regulars :). This is my first time sowing DHA. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Below are the replacement plants I got on the same day from Thai Perfect Gems. Much better than the first batch.

Peter did Comsan mention about a certificate to bring seeds into aus as I am still waiting for mine

Sue no he did not mention that do you think he might be a dud .After i paid that thought came to my brain it was to late has any one else in Aust out the got seed off him .also that was my first time on face book he may of sent me some thing i will have to ask my wife to send a message to him. peter

Peter no he is not a dud very reputable in dorset and other seeds, as was mention to him about certificate with seeds he told me he has sent seeds to aus before. I place my order with him on the 29th April so I say after 5 to 6 weeks they should be here. Rinoa and Ko was about 4 to 6 wks to arrive. I have got seedlings down with Ko and I noticed I had to help with the husk as they where really stuck on. If you check on Comsan website he has a new way to plant seeds very interesting I might give a go .

sue about 1 year ago i bought one of thesehttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Indoor-Grow-Light-Tent-Aluminum-Inlined-Box-Room-Hydroponics-80x45x80cm-/192189676063?hash=item2cbf65ba1f it solved all my germination probs i put a fluro grow light and heat pad

I will have to look into it the weather here does not get really cold so we are planting seeds all year round

Lucky you, its 8 at night and 15 day time in Perth right now. I have to look into the grow tent Peter is mentioning. I wasn't aware weather will drop so low so soon, I did lose some seeds, they didnt germinate just went soggy after a few days despite my best trying to keep them warm.

Agartta, just a suggestion - you should hold off from germinating any more seeds now till weather warms in Spring. It is too cold in your region & mine to be starting seeds. (I just checked the BOM site and you have some very cold mornings coming in the next week.) I have seeds coming from overseas now that I will keep stored till Spring and germinate them then. A few months of storage doesnt make much difference with germination %. (I do not store mine in the fridge, I just store them in an airtight container and out of direct light.) Seeds sown in Spring will sprout faster and grow quicker then seed sown now. If you still want to sow seeds now, then I would look into buying a heat mat/grow light set up like Peter has. Can I also say once temps drop to 10-12degrees Celsius at night we keep our older plants very dry, so as not to get problems with root rot. Cheers.

Shang, hope you don't mind me posting this here on your thread. :)

Hi Rachel, thanks for the info. Cold is sure setting in here, I do keep the plants dry, just a mist of water spray on the leaves. I stopped germinating seeds after I lost a Golden Bell Soco seeds. I received new seeds but I am holding on to them. I have them in their zip lock bag in envelopein the dark draw I hope they don't lose their potential if they kept too long. I do miss summer :), my other seedlings are doing great, they are close to 4 months old. I never soak them with water, I only water spray mist them. Good luck with your plants over winter Rachel :)

Rachel, go ahead a post till your heart content.

update to Comsan Dorset Horn Seeds. 25 sowed and 3 germinated. My error might be the highest reason for it not germinate than his seed not any good. The one that did germinate appeared to be DHA. The one covered in plastic came from another sellers 9 out of 11 germinated.

This little guy might has golden leaves. It is more yellowish than green. My hope is all the one germinated survive. We have rain almost everyday. Good gor my grass, however bad for my Adenium.

what a shame shang the one left will be a special one i hope shang i found when i covered my seeds i had alot that rotted so i left the top off and put a heat pad under my success rate increased by a long way the organic mix you are using will have mold spores in it because it is breaking down i use coco coir it dont rot there for my seeds dont rot but they stay moist

Shang, sorry to here about the germination of your Comsan DH seeds. Maybe some more might pop up soon. Don't give up on them yet. Hope you get some more sun soon. :)

I followed the instructions and it easily can be seen if the seed has rotted. There is no hope for those didn't germinate by now. At least I have one and quite happy about it :).

Hi Shang,I don`t think you have made errors. DHA seeds take longer to germinate. there is some info on facebook for almost 100% germination rate.

Hi Hofwijks, Comsan posted steps by steps how to sow them. The only difference I did before I found the sowing post was soak the seeds instead of letting them sit on a wet paper towel. Most of the seeds become mushy and brown so I pulled them out and into the compose bin.

I purchased 5 seeds from Comsan. 3 germinated and are showing DHA traits for sure. Planted at a depth of 1cm. Germinated after 7-8 days. The two that didn't germinate started molding after 3 days. They were dead seeds. The other three are healthy.

    Good luck!

That awesome Steffen. 3 out of 5 are very good. One of my look very promising.

Hi guys, Well I just put down dorset seeds from Comsan and the temp here is about 26 to 28 in day time drops to about 18at night. Bring them inside as the house is warm from sun it is about 23 to 24 inside at night. Let you know how I fair with them.

Sue do you do any thing different with these DHA seeds

Sowing in soil, date: january 26, 2017.

Only 10 out of 40 100% DH Khz germinated.

I asked Comsankan about the bad germination rates and he said because DHA are very rare and difficult.

Hi Peter No I did not do any different with these seeds , I used seedling mix and perlite as I have had very good success with this mixture. I have had about 90%or more with the seedling I have put down in the last 3 months.

If anyone new to DHA seeds, I suggest you to read how to sow it on FB (Comsan page). To keep this short, you need to help it out of the husk and soft membrane it is in. Otherwise, it will rot. My theory is due to it is a slow grower. After it soak up all the water it needed to start the germination process. It can't break out the soft membrane and die of rot. I saw another grower suggested to peal the soft membrane as well before sowing.

A couple of golden KHZ DHA seeds just arrived sent as a gift from a friend. She says they are Comsan Kan's seeds as well. So I soaked them last night and like Shang said, Ram also recommends peeling the seed coats off because they can't always shed them. We'll see if I can get either of mine to germinate. I'm not a huge fan of the look of DHA's but ... sometimes things grow on me. Probably both of them will germinate regular non DHA's but that would be fine too.

I did not have any problem with the husk ,when they came through the mix I let them sit for a couple of days as they got a bit taller wet them thoroughly and pelled off husk. I found they where pretty well baked as they had leaves under them I suppose after 17 to 19 days to come through they are pretty well on their way.

Sue i have about 4 KHZ DHA up so far no BANG WANG yet its been about 5 days i will take some pics soon i have another twin i am stocked for you getting so many up how did you go at the nursery in Townsville did you go .

Yes I went to see her that is Nicole desert roses she has a small set up but very well organize she told me a few tips with the potting mix she uses. Peter have you been reading the thread about volcanic ash she believe in put volcanic pebbles . I think this is why she is getting beautifull flowers I am going to try this method on some babies I need to transplanting in bigger pots.

cool keep us posted how they go im trying charcoal this mix i have read about using it also gives good results i have just made up the spring potting mix .
