Mites are a common resident in worm bins. I've always had some mites in my bins. When I was first getting started with my current bin it seemed there was an unusually high population of them, but their numbers seemed to stabilize later when the worm population went up.

They won't bite you, hurt your worms, or come out and infest your house. The kind of mites that live in a worm bin are also not the same ones that live on house plants. The worm bin mites just aid in the breakdown of the food.

Crazy as it sounds, bugs are like a 100% no go in my house. Not a fan. Even surprised myself on the worms-- shocked I agreed to house worms indoors.

You'd be surprised how much worms can grow on you. The more you get interested in worms the less icky they will seem.

Yes to everything theparsley has already said about bin mites... and to that I will add: in my experience with mites, they seem to thrive more in overly moist (actually wet) and acidic conditions. They will cause no harm but if you let things dry out a little and add some crushed eggshells their numbers should abate sooner.
