It does look almost like black currant swirl, but the flower on the right of the first pic leaves me not so sure. As far as the seed pods, they look just about ready to harvest. I was worried about mine last year too, first time doing it, but turns out I just waited til they started cracking, which yours look almost ready to do than I sniped them off the plant and let them dry out in a pan or something for awhile. They didn't scatter everywhere or anything when they started to crack open. Good luck, hope this helps some.

I personally wait till the seedpod dries on the plant and then I pick the seed pods.
