There are apples that grow that way. You can also try dwarf fruit trees. There are a lot of those.

I am hesitant to grow apple here. I planted an apple tree at my work . It looks sickly and probably dying. I am growing dwarf mangoes, carambola,dwarf mulberry, cherry of rio grande, grumichama, figs, jaboticaba etc. However, they are all bushy. I am looking for something that can be shaped into column but still bear fruits.

these are not trees but muscadine grape, passionfruit, and dragon fruit can be trained up a column. Strawberries can be planted on something vertical too
