Cymbidiums

I purchased this cymbidium at Christmas and I wasn't sure if the pseudobulb should be wrinkled as in the picture below. The plant when I got it lost all its flowers and buds pretty much straight away, but it seems to be growing new leaves and it has a new flower spike.

I am watering it once a week now as I had cut it back a bit after the flowers and buds dropped off. I was checking the medium each week to see if it needed watering.

Advice very much appreciated.

You need to tell the readers where you are! The orchid looks in reasonable condition. Culture varies according to Climate. They are outdoors all year orchids here.

Thank you for the reply, I live in Scotland in the UK. I have just started putting them out during the day as we have been having a lot of sunny days. We don't have the temperatures and dry days that you will have where you live.

Cymbidiums are listed as cold growers in English orchid books meaning that you would not have to spend a fortune heating your glass house during winter.

Most, but not all of the hybrids will not bloom well if Average Summer night temperatures are above about 20C. Cool tolerant down to about 2C at night in winter. They are high light orchids!

Perhaps, there are culture notes available from the RHS or Orchid Societies with a similar climate to yours.

Thank you for that, they are getting on plenty of light so hopefully they will bloom well.

Speaking of Cymbidiums.. Does anyone have a favorite type of substrate to plant theirs in? Do you mix soil with sphagnum or bark? If you use soil, what brand?
