I think you need some kind of cover over the entry. You need some kind of landscaping. Maybe hostas in front of the windows and small round box woods or hollies in between the windows. The roof, trim, and base color are blah and do not really go together. If you are going to keep the roof I would get it cleaned and then paint the body of the house a deeper color that is in the brown family such as a deep tan or brownish green.If you do not want shutters how about trimming out the windows in wider wood trim to make it look balanced.

A front door with side lights would look good...I agree with wider trim....Most definitely needs some landscaping...Adding in some ornamental, perennials, bright colored annual plantings would immediately spruce up the home...How big of changes are you looking to do? A front portico, pergola..something along those lines could help. What type of siding is it?

@claudiann, some sort of covered entry portal is a must! Anything to protect the front door from the weather and draw attention to the entry would be nice! I will look for photos to post!

I recommend to add a portico to the front entrance like shown above. if you do, you should also consider changing your front door and change/remove the storm door. If you don't want shutters, you should add trim and cap your windows to give them interest. For your upper windows, consider some window boxes in a dark color to add some contrast and interest - this is also a less expensive update. Lastly, I would recommend painting the house 2 shades darker and adding some color with landscaping.

Yes! Paint your home a warmer color, then add some landscaping, hanging baskets, etc.........Cost effective, realistic to your home, and a drastic improvement, with some paint, and elbow grease!

Replace the roof. A black roof would look wonderful. The windows are not the same size. I would cover the bottom windows with shrubs. The bottom windows distract from the house. With Shrubs you would still get some interior light. I would plant deep green holly bushes in front under the windows. Install some working shutters on the two single windows. Adding a picket fence would add balance to the home. I would remove the storm door and replace it with a new solid wooden door. I would also replace the garage doors with solid doors. I would also use the other ideas that have already been given about placing a cover over the front door. This will really help. I would paint the home a deep gray with white trim and a colorful door. I would paint the garage door the same color as the house so that it would not distract from the appearence. Limit colorful flowers to flowers planted on the fence. If you paint the home gray red or pink roses on the fence would be wonderful. You could also use a small tree. River Birch trees are wonderful trees. You could plant one and the end of the sidewalk near the driveway and one in the center of the yard between the windows (center the tree.)
