I recently purchased a 15 gallon pigmy date palm (Phoenix roebelenii) to put near my pool. I potted in a container, slightly larger than the pot it came in. My question is about top dressing, I would like to use river rock for the look. Is this acceptable or would mulch or nothing be better?
