I've had this air plant for 9 months now. When I got it, one side was only starting to grow. Now that it's big I wanted to ask if I could split it into 2 separate pieces? And if so, what would be the best way to do so without harming the plant?

Btw: Maybe someone could tell me why one side is getting a slightly red hue? It is because it is older than the other side? Or is the plant unhealthy? Perhaps exposed to too much sunlight or not enough water?

How much would ideally should I water it?
