I have never made something that thin with hypertufa. You would need to use very fine peat, and very fine perlite. It would not be very strong. Tell use why or what you plant to do. Have you ever made anything using hypertufa? IMHO - Portland Cement and Sand would be better end result for anything that thin.

I came here to ask the same question. I am interested in making some tiles for the wall above my kitchen bench. More for decorative feature than strength. Would strengthening a tile be necessary for this use?

Helen, hypertufa is porous because of the ingredients ( peat moss, perlite, portland cement) , minimally they could be hard to clean, but adaptable to the setting. Using a mix of portland and sand about 1 to 4 would allow for a smoother texture, and if you wanted to embed items into the tile it would be easier with this mix. My best advise is to mix up different batches and experiment with different ingredients and see what you like.
