Growing from Seed

will lupines flower this year?

I started lupine seeds on May 1, they are beautiful 3 inch tall seedlings with significant roots and I must plant them out soon (I've been hardening them off). Will they flower this year for me? How close can I plant them each other? The closer the better so I can have space for other darlings but I want my lupines to be healthy and happy too.

Can't say for sure because you don't provide any location or garden zone info and that is crucial info when you post questions.

So it depends on how early you started them indoors and what your climate is. May 1 isn't very early at all. Try late Feb to early March next year if you want guaranteed blooms the first year.

Spacing is 12" minimum, 18-24" is better.

I'm in zone 7a...I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
