How to succeed with Wisteria in MN

Hi Minnesota gardeners,
Last year I bought two Summer Cascade wisterias and planted them in the fall at the base of my pergola. This spring, I realized I'm not really sure how they grow and vine. I have planted them with the hope that they will wind up the pergola posts, but I'm not sure how to train it. So far, I have clematis growing up the post as well and have some light fishing line strung up to support the clematis. I'm not sure if the same structure will work for the wisteria (see front of post in the attached pictures, I just have a shoot tucked in the fishing line).

Also, I've heard that I should be pruning a wisteria in early spring to promote growth. Is that true of a young plant as well? Anyone who's successfully growing an wisteria in Minnesota have tips to share?
