Lovely! In all my years growing AVs I have never had a plant sport and look better. The only sporting my AVs participated in was turning from lovely to plain, I am talking about you Ma's Taffy Swirl!

It's gone chimeric on you. Congratulations. Try some bloom stalk propagation and watch carefully for any suckers you can carefully remove as if it is a chimera, it won't reproduce true by leaves. On the other hand, putting down a leaf and waiting for the babies to flower is a great way to test whether your mother plant is indeed a chimera. Beautiful. AV's may tend to sport into chimeras more in hot growing conditions or after treatment with harsh chemicals.

Thank you for your advice. I already propagated by stalk and it bloomed true (as attached pic shows), which proves this trait has been carried over for more than three generations. Either my friend or I haven't conducted chimera test by propagating by leaves, though.

Oh, I've also heard the way of making chimeras by giving them a boot camp. Maybe our monsoon climate helped a lot.

Unfortunately probably not in the USA, though I have been known to import some plants from Asia on occasion. Certainly all of my start up adeniums and seed have come from Taiwan or Thailand so far. Speaking of monsoon season, it's already starting here (Hurricane season for us) as we've had 5 days straight of downpour with a tropical storm up from the Gulf. PLEASE GO AWAY so I can put my adeniums back outside. Blarg. Better than the drought we had last year but still, getting tired of it.

I am in Tokyo. I have tried to ship my own hybrids internationally in the past. Amazingly, it took only one and a half days to reach Hong Kong, Taiwan and London also. Shipping from here to the US always takes an entire week or more....

Rainy season is about to set in soon, which should be ideal for my violets. Then after the wet season, I need to make my air conditions function around the clock for almost twon months. Our summer is way too much for African violets. Yes, nature is often too harsh for the violets and we need to adjust somehow...

Hah. You say shipping to the US takes a week! That would be very fast indeed, assuming you didn't use Express Mail. Most of my non-Express shipments from Asia take about 3 weeks. Makes sense though because there is a lot of traffic between CA, HI, and Japan so it doesn't really surprise me that regular airmail moves pretty fast between you and the US. An AV can travel for 3 or 4 weeks in shipping and survive if it's packed properly (not wet!) unless it hits very hot or cold temperatures. But it's risky. A week however, that's no sweat in decent weather. Hmmm. Perhaps we'll chat after my up coming move to a new location. Chip. ;)
