Fungal?

shavedmonkey, I did wonder if perhaps I watered and then the sun did it since the new growth is so tender. Jane, I have looked for fungal description and pictures but didn't find any yet.

Fungus will often start as spots which become larger as the fungus grows. I've got something similar on some Sarchochilus but haven't found how to get rid of it.

It looks fungal to me. I would just watch it. You might lose those bottom leaves but as the canes grow taller they will be exposed to more air and it might just correct itself.

I have yet to find a safe fungicide for Dends. Maybe try increasing air flow around the plant.

It might be virus. I don't think it is fungus. Fungus grows. Has it flowered? If it is virus the flowers will be distorted. It could be black rot. Keep it away from other orchids until you know what it is...

I have separated it from the others so I can watch it. Since the spots are only on the new growth I am hoping for a good outcome.

Just realized both these orchids were markdowns after they had finished blooming and both have the same name tag. Must mean something. None of the other dendrobiums are affected.

It looks fungal to me. I have so many fungal problems in Florida. It is not virus.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it begins to show up on the newer leaves. Not sure what to do with Dens. What I did was hang them in baskets under trees where they get lots of air movement. Cured the problem. I'm thrilled!

Thank you Jane. The spots are on new leaves only. I will try hanging the plants so they get more air from the fan.
