I missed out on taking a good picture of Carramba's second scape but got to take this quick shot if one of it's flowers that still looked decent.

They are all absolutely beautiful :-))) My Madame Butterfly (both small bulbs and seedlings) are still on the pip squeak side so it'll be a while before I see blooms.

Your Carramba's color is what I get trying to take pictures of Dark Wizard but there is no purple in it. I wonder if they'll offer Carramba next year, it's gorgeous!!

Your Madame B is gorgeous too! This year mine had a problem sending up the bud from the bulb and one of them barely made it out before it opened but I was able to harvest a little fresh pollen so all was not lost, the second bulb shriveled....

Those lilies are amazing, I can't grow them here, the rabbits and the deer feast on them and we get a strange beetle (not Japanese beetles) that likes to devour them too. None of them seem to touch the daylilies but just love the lilies. I would assume that they would taste about the same.

I have a whole mess of lilies (Asiatic, Orienpet, Lancifolium and a bunch of other hybrids) in my garden that used to be munched on from head to toe by this #$%@ing red beetle that was accidentally "imported" from Japan but I haven't seen the little buggers in a couple of years. Maybe something's eating them for a change....YEAH!!!!!

Really, maybe I'll give them another try this summer then it was the same red beetle I'm sure. I have an enclosed fenced in area for my hydrangeas to keep the deer from grazing but I still don't think it would stop a rabbit but 2 our of 3 isn't bad....

Those beetles actually don't like Sevin dust so I sprinkle some as preventative most specially when I see buds forming.

They don't like fingers either. When ever I see them or their larva...I squish them with delight!!!!

Found this pic of Carramba in my phone just before my grandson was born. it also has a purplish tinge on its leaves.

I really like the "smoked" purplish tinge on the leaves and scape. The depth of color is gorgeous!

Summertime is lily time! Here are the first ones to bloom.

Komoriya "Hachiya something" Lol now blooming. Three 5 inch flower/buds in the scape. I think I bought this bulb like 2 years ago. I also have 2 Eaelp (spelling?) that have not bloomed for a while in bud for some reason.

Oooh Maria, peach and green...that is just stunning!!! I seem to think that I had one and it just died, without ever blooming of course as so many have. The name I have for it is Hachijya-hachiya or something like that and here was their picture.

As you can see yours is sooo much prettier and it gives four flowers!!!!

You're welcome Hans. The bottom right picture is Tango Graffiti and the bottom left one is Tango Tiger Play. These Tango lilies perform very well here in my garden.

Maria, I hope some of your Cheekies blooms with brilliant colors like my first scape did, my second scape had washed out colors and wasn't very interesting. But they're strong bulbs with the fattest buds ever aren't they!!

Donna...I had to go to Maryland to take care of personal things. Was gone for almost 2 weeks and just got home yesterday. I had to place my hippies in a semi-sheltered place to fend for themselves. All the Cheeky bulbs bloomed true to their name although flower colors are paler. It could have been the higher temps that caused this.

I also received a tiny leafless papilio offset as a gift and I sat it in my heat pad before I left for Maryland. I came back to see this precious gift growing it's first leaf.

Here is the picture of the mother bulb of my friend where the above offset came from.

I know right? My jaws practically dropped when I saw this picture! I've seen variegated mid striped hippies but this is the very first striata variegated hippie that I have seen and a papilio at that! Now I am seeing it with my own eyes!

Wow!!! I just saw this post and at the first picture and my jaw dropped too!! Then I read on and it is a variegated papilio!!! All I can say is that it's in good hands because if anyone can make it live, you can!! I must admit thought that at the moment I am turning a little green.....Stunning!!!

I'm pretty sure that someone else in the forum mentioned a variegated Papilio once but I never saw a picture. Thank you for sharing this with us, Maria!

I have experience in breeding this kind of striata variegation on clivias and it is very unstable/unpredictable....some will be green leafed, some will be albino and some will have the variegation. Mother plant should be variegated. Unlike the mid-striped variegation, this variegation is not passed on through pollen. The more yellow the variegation has, the more results of albino seedlings. And the more green the variegation has, the more results of green leafed seedlings. Surest way to get a variegated one is through bulblets. Some bulblets of striata variegated plants can be green leafed, albino or striata variegated.

Talking about breeding...This hippie was grown from my seed of "Papilio X Marikit" cross that I made a long time ago. It has now been propagated and bulbs/bulblets are now being sold in Australia. How cool is that?

No name Donna...They just show this picture as they will have the same flowers. I'm good with what I have. It's ok and I'm happy that seedlings from my seeds are blooming and appreciated by gardeners somewhere. I have accepted that I do not have the means and ability to grow them all.

By the way...I played with a few flowers and pollinated some using pollen of variegated hippies before I left for Maryland. Just an experiment if they will be successful. Nothing "brain draining" as I used to do with my pollinations. I'm so surprised I got some seedpods.

"Greenius" is imho a good Innovation - well IF it does readily produce 4 florets per scape! It looks like a "Jaguar" but with narrower floral segments. Does anyone still have "Jaguar" or is it already "extinct"? I wonder how many of the contemporaneous DIPloid hybrids are already "extinct" - for other examples the trumpets "Pink Floyd" (3-4 florets per scape) and "Striped Panther" (allegedly up to 8 florets per scape)

The color pattern in the bloom of this variegated H.papilio is superior as compared to the "common clone".

Hello Maria, we should be, IMHO, VERY aware, that since the year 2000 approximately, many new DIPloid hybrids have been created, the inescapable consequence of which is, that many of them will disappear rather soon and MIGHT already have gone extinct respectively. This might be the case with "Jaguar" which is regrettable - well, provided it IS true that this hybrid can/could produce 6-8 florets per scape. Everybody who is in possession of modern DIPloid hybrids might become the "conservator" of all those individual hybrids that they deem "precious". I am the proud conservator of "Melusine" (yes the "real" one, which is presumably TRIploid, currently I have 4 bloomable bulbs) and "Striped Panther" (DIPloid, strongly fragrant, currently 4 bloomable bulbs and 4 smaller bulbs) and I wonder whether, for an example "Santa Fe" is still alive somewhere...

That is incredible! These reminded me of some Double-Polianthes at first, but this is about to become even more spectacular!

My friend said they look like artichokes! Lol. And here is an update pic of variegated papilio developing pinkish red color perhaps due to the cooler temps that we are getting.
