Avocado Growers

Avocado Tree help...

I started an avocado tree from a store-bought Hass pit. It's grown fine, but I think it needed to be pruned long before now. Enclosed are pictures to show it's current state. It's now 50" tall (about 5'9", including the pot height). What is the best thing to do at this point, to encourage other branches and more horizontal growth and not just remain as a single, spindly tall thing, that needs to be wired to a strong dead branch, to keep it from being destroyed in the wind?

Hello everyone, I hope you can share some insight for me. We have a growing avocado dead which has a stem, roots and several leaves with 2 higher ones that are around 4 inches long on the top. There are several little sprouts in the middle. One of the little sprouts was accidentally touched and now seems wilted but still attached to the stem. Will this affect the overall plant? Will it continue to grow? And will this little piece grow back?
