Begonia 'Hocking Inner Glow'

i got it from Peace Tree farm - that seems to be the only place referencing it.

But i see identical plant called B. 'Hocking Inner Light' at Glasshouse works.

could it be the same hybrid?

this is what i bought

I got it since i loved the variegation, but it slowly turned completely black.

I rooted a couple of leaves and the baby plants have proper variegation. they are growing in the same position light-wise, as the original plant when it turned black.

I put the original plant in a dimmer light, but it still producing plain dark leaves.

it is also growing slower, may be due to less light or may be it's after winter just picking up speed...

I have no idea on what causes them to switch between the vivid markings and pure black. I would think it has something to do with light levels and the age of the leaves myself.

As for fertilizer, that is a big can of worms. Most folks just say go slow on the fertilizer for begonias - slow release or a weak solution of water soluble. The main thing is not to kill them with too much food! I try try to buy both when they are on sale.

On feeding, I've found that topping off the old soil with some fresh potting mix (with slow release included) often perks up begonias in a couple of weeks. This is my first winter I didn't fertilize one begonia and overall I think they came out better for it. Now that half are outdoors I've put slow release in most pots and will start up water soluble soon.
