Well crap, wrong forum! lol. Anyone familiar with Clematis? :)

This post is showing up here and also the Clematis board. WTH?

It's also on the Kitchen Table forum. Ironically, five minutes ago I was talking about ghosts that I think live here. lol

I can't see the vine tips clearly, but it may be some type of damage. I'd trim them off since the vine will branch out at the next node down. Has it been windy? Is it a new plant?

Yes, it's a new plant and it does get some strong south wind, but I have it somewhat protected. I'll clip them later.

The 5 plants I planted are suppose to bloom mid summer, is there a chance any of mine will bloom this year? I sure hope so, but I doubt it.

Clematis do take a bit of patience. Whether it will bloom this year depends on size when planted. Based on my experience, if it was a 4" pot or bare-root, most likely not. If it was a quart maybe a flower or two, with more in each of the next few years. If it was a gallon or more, yes. However, I have found that if they are happy and not eaten by voles (I plant in below ground cages in my garden) that they are well worth the wait. Once settled in and growing they produce flowers for many years in profusion, so lots of long term reward.

They came in quart sized pots. If they don't bloom this first year that's okay. We call voles "field mice" here, and we have a LOT of them since we're in the country. I didn't know they ate plants, so far I haven't had as problem with them over the years.

Voles are a little different than mice, though they do get called mice sometimes. I've got a bazillion of them here, and also bazillions of rabbits -- yup, also in the country! -- but I do most of my gardening in containers, so it isn't such a big deal for me.

Voles are the same as field mice and meadow mice. We call them field mice here in OK. Much larger than a mouse. It's fun to see one running across the dirt road when I'm driving. It's even better when my cat catches one. lol.

How big is that trellis? Both Huldine and venosa violacea are large growers.....I have a 9' tall by 5' wide trellis for VV and it outgrows it and Huldine goes to the top of a purple leaf plum tree....

I want to say about 6 feet, but I'm not worried. It's in an area where I can add another trellis if I have to. BTW, it's growing but the tips are still stiff. Strange.
