hello gardengal :-)) The bumps are due to some previous insect problem.....very likely some sort of sucking insect, like aphids. They are probably long gone but I'd check the leaves, including the undersides, to confirm.

Gall mites can be a cause of bumpy leaves.

Check the underside of the leaves. It could be cedar apple rust.

I dont believe it is CAR, but could very well be the early stages of Scab.

Thanks. I treated for scab as directed by the nursery closest to my house. I guess I'll see if that works.
