Groundcover Companion for Periwinkles

Can anyone recommend a low growing companion to plant in the bare areas that you see in front and to the sides of the periwinkles in the photo (taken last year but the periwinkles reseed and come back in the same place).
The bed faces east and gets full sun until late afternoon.
I am in zone 7B. Thanks for any assistance!
