You should have at least two months before next year's flower buds are set, so there should not be any chance of cutting them off by pruning now. Unless there is a serious heat wave combined with drought, temperature should not be a factor in pruning either. The ideal time is just after bloom when there is lots of vigorous vegetative growth, but I can't think of any reason not to prune now.

In the PNW, NOW is the preferred time for pruning rhodies and azaleas!! The vast majority are either in full bloom or have just finished their spring bloom cycle. I can't think of better time to do so and weather/temperatures are really not a factor at all.

Thank you akamainegrower and gardengal48! My Bluebird rhody finished blooming about 3 weeks ago and I've had a bad case of "Wait Until Tomorrow". Then the weather warmed up and while I have watered I didn't want to over stress it.
