Hey, thanks for your input. You brought up two great points there. I have never had any desire to grow perennials in pots for the extra care that's required, but I decided to go ahead and go for it last night. I'm sure my neighbors think I am a little off. Haha, to each his own!

That looks like Allium sphaerocephalon, Drumstick Allium, and is a prized component in many gardens. I've not heard it described as 'weedy' before. Just my opinion but I'd welcome it in the garden. Ignore the neighbours. Allium sphaerocelphalon.

It seems alliums can vary in the spectrum of weedy to finicky depending on the growing conditions. At least, a few recent discussions have given me that impression.

MBT, I would suggest potting your alliums in a faster draining mix rather than straight potting mix. There are some that have this to a science, but I add sand/tiny pebbles and ground leaves - because that's what I have.

I expect you should have a successful experiment- you will of course come back and update us for the scientific record? Hehe.....

Floral, thanks for the ID. It is in an area that has been neglected. There is this allium, some kind of Artemisia, Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster', and grass from the lawn that has grown in there, a nearby tulip. It is a small patch, but it has a lot going on-- a real mess. I've been letting everything grow just to figure out what I have inherited. And the allium sphaerocephalon-- what a find! They might not be weeds, but it sure looks like it.

I would like to reuse the plants that are here. The previous owner was an avid gardener and used a lot of plants that are well suited to the soil and climate, but some of the design choices are not for me. For instance, he planted one straight row of tullps out in the lawn. There is also chinodoxa, and a tiny little variety of muscari (so cute), but they're naturalized and the foilage is not an eyesore in the turf. I'm just trying to slowly figure out what is here, how to care for it, and how to repurpose it while learning to creating a cohesive garden design.

I have only read a little about A. sphaerocephalon it sounds like it might be more aggressive in the cooler climate zones which is why I liked the idea of growing it in a pot.

I always appreciate and update, so I will try to remember, posierosie. I have them potted but they are quite floppy without the support of nearby plants. I tied the up, but I think I'm going to chop them down just enough so they can support themselves without falling over. It's not going to be really beautiful this season either way.
