Root trimming

Hi Ladies & gents,

Attached photos refer to a plant I recently bought from a local nursery.

I have removed it from the dense clay, washed it and am now air drying before re-potting.

As you can see it has a lot of straggly "air roots" and I want to tidy it up and get more growth into that caudex.

My question is which roots to trim and which to leave?

Straight from the Nursery.

All washed and ready for a trim
