Go look at your old ugly garage floor or driveway for what it will look like in a few years. Concrete etches just like marble, and stains just like marble, and is porous just like marble. Might as well get marble.

Concrete stains worse than butcher block ever will at least with BB you can sand out the stain and reoil it will look like new. i ran a catering biz from the kitchen in this pic and 15 yrs later those counters still look like new with a fine sanding and reoiling every year.

I got a stain on my butcher block and I just sanded it out. I love that I can do that.

Mans my butcher block is not sealed. I just used that beeswax and mineral oil stuff you get at Home Depot. Put it on once every couple of months, leave it over night, and it helps repel stains. Just takes a couple of minutes.

Thank you! I should also mention, I am getting wood shakers, and wood floor, so butcher block may be too much wood! I really don't love the idea of granite or quartz (from both environmental and cost perspectives), but am skeptical about laminate. Who would have thought the countertop decision would be such a dilemma!?

You can get all the look of concrete with solid surface and none of the disadvantages. Shop around, please.
