Another damp, wet day here on Long Island. The roses are opening slowly, but I think the cooler weather will prolong the display on the once-bloomer, which will be nice. Here are some roses that opened up today.

Queen of Sweden

Susan Williams-Ellis

Marie Pavie

Perle d'or

Cornelia

Marianne - A real showstopper

Purple Pavement

Jens Munk

You have great taste in roses (meaning that I love every rose here) and the photography is also really good. My spring flush is long over, so its such a treat to see others' beautiful pictures of theirs.

Really beautiful, Chris! We put our gardens together with different styles -- mine is sort of secret cottage, but yours is more open and welcoming. I wonder if that reflects our personalities. Yours definitely has the air of someone who enjoys parkland and forest. Mine is a hidden attempted respite from some of the "less than pretty" aspects of my town, LOL.

Ohh that Marianne is to die for!

Oh wow!! They are all beautiful.

Wow! Your roses are beautiful and so are the companions. That's a great shot of Marianne's blend of orange sherbet and cream with a twist of lemon butter! Carol

Spring flush seems ages ago already, so its so nice to see these photos of yours. Exceptionally beautiful roses. I love the full shrub shots that showcase what a master you are with the pruning shears! Great companion planting......drooling over those irises and general freshness.....Congratulations on creating this paradise.

What lovely roses, beautifully photographed... I especially like 'Marianne'..

I agree! Love those blue companions; what is the one with Purple Pavement? Some kind of nepeta? And in the already wearisome heat and dryness that we have here, it is indeed refreshing to see your photos!

Lovely roses, great photos, and I'm really taken with Marianne!

Thank you all for the kind words and compliments! It really means a lot coming from all of you, and it's great to be able to share with people who appreciate gardens and plants, especially roses. It's funny how roses don't really register with some people. I get more compliments on the irises sometimes. My husband keeps remarking how nice a certain weigela is, which came with the house, and is a crimson color that clashes with everything else, haha. Before he commented on it, I was considering removing it.

The plants do look very lush this year, thanks to all the rain we've been having, and cooler temps. Jens Munk and Purple Pavement have a wonderful shrub form all on their own. I can't take too much credit :)

Christopher, I love the "hidden garden" feel that your garden has.

Bart, yes, that's Walker's Low nepeta. I like the way they look now. They tend to get too massive as the season progresses.

Marianne is a real crowd pleaser and has many fine qualities.

P.S. I need to get a better shot of Cornelia. That one I posted isn't very flattering.

My husband thought rose = Hybrid Tea when we met, so that particular class was on his radar, but it wasn't really super exciting to him. His conversion experience crept in over the years as I surrounded our home with a ridiculous number of roses. Now he sees and appreciates all my OGRs, Rugosas, HMs, etc. I think he still prefers fir trees, but fortunately none grew in the yard when we bought the house, so I've never been forced to accommodate one. :-) Carol
