Streaked Marble Floor

I recently had a marble foyer sealed and it left visible streaks. I tried damp moping and rubbing but nothing so far has helped. What can I do?

You probably need to call the professional back in to see what can be done. Sealants are funky things. Some like to sit for a while where as others like to be wiped up right away. Hard to say what is going on without photos.

How old are the floors? What was done to them prior to the professional putting down sealant? What level of professional did you use? Stone professional? Or some guy who said he could do it?

The floor is 10 years old and in excellent condition. It was sealed once before with no problems. this time it was done by a professional firm too. They service the the floors in our condo building. They used a mop with a soft cotton bottom to seal. we left the apartment for four hours before walking on it. I am reluctant to bring them back for various reasons.

So what did they do to prepare the marble for the new sealant? If you have streaks, I'm wondering if it didn't seep into the material (ie. it is sitting on top). Usually it is best to use "same material" each time this is done. As I said, sealants vary. The one used 10 years ago (plus cleaning materials used since) may be incompatible with the one used more recently.

If you are reluctant to bring them back in, then you may be looking at having another stone professional come (you pay for the service call again) and assess what is going on. Then pay them to do what needs to be done.

In the building industry, and building law, normally requires the company that made the mistake ONE opportunity to fix their mistake. Once they have attempted "the fix" (and assuming it didn't work), you can then go ahead and hire a 3rd party to fix the fix...and then bill the ORIGINAL firm for it.

If you fix it WITHOUT allowing the original firm the first kick at the can, then you will pay for everything - you will have no financial recourse to go after them for "the fix". If you don't care about getting money out of them, then go ahead and bring in the 3rd party. If you intend to pass the bill onto the original firm, you MUST allow them ONE attempt at fixing their mess.

Again...photos of what has happened would really, really, really help.
