Can you post a photo? I doubt your problem is unique or specific to Akane - mine is totally unblemished, in a container and receives direct sun periodically through the day although most of the time it is not in direct sun.....just bright light.

Often, brown or dry spotting on JM foliage is due to inconsistent watering - allowing the soil to dry excessively before watering - the soil should stay evenly moist. But it can also be due to hard weather (heavy rains, hail, etc.). Really, all we can do is speculate without some visual clues to go by......a photo would really help.

Thanks Garden Gal, I can get a photo later on, it has rained a lot here lately. I regularly check the soil for dryness and water as needed. Back to the rain..... we have had as much as 3 inches at a time a couple of times a week so that might be the problem and honestly that is when I started noticing the brown spots. The tree get's maybe 1.5 hours of morning sun from say 8:30 to 10 but some of this time it's dappled, also maybe another hour or less around 4:30.
